Team & Group Development

Developing Existing Teams & Groups

Groups have their own “body”. They breathe, move, and respond together-sometimes with ease, sometimes with tension. Somatic group development helps a group become more aware of how it shows up as a whole, and gives it tools to grow stronger, more connected, and more resilient.

When a group develops somatically, it doesn’t just work better-it feels better to be part of it. Members experience more flow, creativity, and solidarity, allowing the group to move forward with greater impact and ease.

Somatic group development is how a group as a whole grows and embodies new ways of being together. It can be done with teams, boards, organizations, families, community groups, affinity groups, and more.

How Embodiment Shapes Groups & Systems

Just as individuals carry patterns, groups also carry patterned ways of relating- like avoidance of conflict, hierarchy, or over-accommodation.

Group Development is not just talking about roles, values, or goals- it involves sensing, moving, breathing, and practicing presence together.

The group becomes aware of how it “shows up” as a body-its pace, tone, energy, and implicit and explicit agreements.

Somatic Learning & Practice for Groups

Groups engage in learning and practices done together to shape individual and shared presence as well as collaborative leadership, vision, and teaming.

This may include facilitated dialogue, as well as movement and relational exercises that reveal group dynamics (who steps forward, who hangs back, how space and energy are shared)

This enhances the group’s collective capacity for:

  • Conflict: staying embodied and connected when conflict arises

  • Vision: aligning around shared direction with clarity

  • Resilience: regulating together in the face of stress or challenge

  • Trust and Connection: cultivating safety and belonging somatically, not just intellectually

  • Decision Making: co-ordinating for speed and quality of decision-making through embodied presence

  • Execution: taking clear and grounded action aligned with shared purpose and vision

Somatic team and group development is designed and customized to the needs and budget of each group. If you would like to explore how it might benefit your team or group.
